SL women’s 400 metres hurdles champion dies by suicide

Sri Lanka women’s 400 metres hurdles champion Kaushalya Madhushani has passed away.

Police suspect that the 26-year-old has died by suicide in her house in Dummalasuriya and are conducting further investigations.

Madhushani won the Glucolin Challenge Trophy for best hurdler on Saturday at the 100th National Athletics Championship 2022 at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama. She won the 400 metres hurdles with a time of 58.37 seconds at the championship. Madhushani was a member of Sri Lanka’s Gold medal-winning 4 x 400 metres relay team in the 2019 South Asian Games in Kathmandu. She also secured a silver medal in the 400 metres hurdles.
