The Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) Coaching and Promotions (C&P) Committee has successfully conducted a preliminary training program for badminton coaches over the weekend.
Held at the Nuwara Eliya Indoor Stadium, 52 coaches took part in the training program, organised by the Central Province Badminton Association.
The participants represented all three districts in the Central Province, namely Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Matale. The two-day coaches training program covered practical and theory sessions and was followed by a session with Dr. Kuma Iddamallena, a well-known motivational speaker.
SLB President Rohan de Silva was also present among special guests on the final day.
The program mainly focused on giving physical training instructors, as well as coaches who are involved with schools and clubs, a basic knowledge about fundamentals of training beginners, talent identification, and rules and regulations of the game. It also included group activities and was followed by a theoretical and practical evaluation.
This was the fourth such program conducted for the coaches by the C&P Committee this year, following successful completion of a workshop for coaches held in Colombo on 14 March and the coaches training program conducted in Ampara from 20-21 March, and another one in Kilinochchi, from 6-7 April, covering the entire Northern Province.
SLB believes the role of coaches is important in promoting badminton at the provincial and district levels and that it is vital to uplift the standard of coaches’ knowledge. This is an ongoing program which will extend to other districts during the course of the year.
