SLC Major 50-over tournament commences today with 10 matches

Last year’s finalists Tamil Union and Army SC will have a free day on the opening day of the SLC Major Club 50-over tournament today at 10 venues.

Beaten semi-finalists CCC and Ace Capitals CC will both figure in today’s matches. CCC travel to Welagedara Stadium to meet Kurunegala YCC, while Ace Capital CC meet Nugegoda SWC at Air Force grounds, Katunayake.

SSC and Police SC who finished as joint champions of the SLC Major Club three-day tournament on Monday will both be seen in action today. SSC play host to Badureliya CC at SSC grounds, and Police SC host to Sebastianites at police park.

Other matches starting today: Moors SC v Negombo CC at Moors grounds, Colts v Galle CC at Colts grounds, Ragama CC v Air Force SC at Bloomfield grounds, BRC v Bloomfield at BRC grounds, Chilaw Marians CC v Kandy Customs SC at Maggona, and Panadura SC v NCC at Panadura.

There are 22 teams competing in two groups with the top two teams in each group going through to the semi-finals.

The groupings:

• GROUP A: Tamil Union, CCC, Moors SC, Colts, Ragama CC, Police SC, Sebastianites, Air Force SC, Galle CC, Negombo CC, Kurunegala YCC
• GROUP B: Army SC, Ace Capital CC, SSC, BRC, Chilaw Marians CC, NCC, Panadura SC, Kandy Customs SC, Bloomfield, Badureliya CC, Nugegoda SWC
