Moors SC skipper Janishka Perera
Moors SC skipper Janishka Perera had Ace Capital CC on the back foot at the end of the first day of the SLC Major Club Under-23 two-day final at the Colts Ground yesterday.
Perera first dominated the batting with a captain’s knock of 92 off 136 balls (6 fours) to steer Moors SC to a first innings total of 233. Then, with his right-arm medium-paced deliveries, dismantled the Ace Capital CC batting, taking 3/29 as they limped to 110-5 by the close, trailing by 123 runs to gain the vital first innings lead.
Ace Capital CC would have been in a much bigger plight than they are in right now as they lost their first five wickets for 53. An unfinished stand of 57 between Sakuna Liyanage (18*) and a run-a-ball 38 by Raveen de Silva saw them to a more respectable score by the close.
Moors SC, invited to bat first, recovered from losing their first three wickets for 59 to reach 193-4 before another collapse saw them squander their remaining six wickets for 40 runs.
A feature of the Moors SC innings was Janishka Perera’s knock and his fifth wicket stand of 74 with Yesith Rupasinghe (33). The Moors SC slump was originated by spinners Raveen de Silva (3/32) and Kavindu Amantha (3/10). The match continues today.
