SLC Major Clubs’ 50-over tournament commences today

The Tournament Committee postponed the SLC Major Clubs T20 quarter-finals indefinitely because of the adverse weather conditions, but are left with no alternative but to commence the SLC Major Clubs 50-over tournament from today.

A card of seven matches are down for decision with last season’s finalist SSC having a day off, while the other finalist Sebastianites are no longer qualified to play in the top tier as they have been relegated to Tier B after finishing at the bottom of the Group B league.

Eighteen teams will be competing in this season’s tournament in two groups of nine each. The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals.

The groupings:

GROUP A: SSC, Negombo CC, Bloomfield, NCC, Chilaw Marians CC, Ragama CC, Tamil Union, Panadura SC, Ace Capitals CC

GROUP B: Colts, Badureliya CC, CCC, Moors SC, Nugegoda SWC, Police SC, Kandy Customs SC, BRC, Kurunegala YCC

The matches commencing today are: Ace Capital CC v Negombo CC at Dombagoda, Panadura SC v Bloomfield at Panadura, Chilaw Marians CC v Ragama CC at Galle, Badureliya CC v Kurunegala YCC at Maggona, CCC v BRC at SSC, Moors SC v Kandy Customs SC at Bloomfield, Nugegoda SWC v Police SC at Moratuwa.
