SLC awards promotions to 133 umpires

One hundred and thirty three umpires across various levels, accredited by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), were awarded promotion letters during two ceremonies held recently. 

The first ceremony was attended by SLC President Shammi Silva, Vice President Ravin Wickramaratne, elite umpire Kumar Dharmasena, the Umpires Committee comprising Chairman Deepal Madurapperuma, Secretary Wasanthala Fernando, committee members Manuja Kariapperuma, Dilran Abeysekera, and Adu Siddeek. The letters for Level 1, 2, and 3 promotions were handed over at this ceremony. 

The second ceremony was attended by elite umpire Kumar Dharmasena, the Umpires Committee, letters were awarded to the umpires promoted to level 4. 

The evaluation process for these promotions included examinations, viva voce, and interviews, and was conducted under close scrutiny and supervision of the Umpires Committee. 

SLC said 370 SLC-accredited umpires sat for the examination, and out of these 270 qualified to face the viva. The vivas were conducted in 7 centres covering all districts.

There were 4 promotions to level 1, 10 promotions to level 2, 29 promotions to level 3 and 90 promotions to level 4. SLC said it was noteworthy that 3 woman umpires were promoted this time: 2 to level 3 and one to level 4. They were: Dedunu De Silva and Nimali Perera promoted to Level 3 and Sanduni Lakshika to level 4.
