Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a statement yesterday extended its sincere congratulations on behalf of its Executive Committee, its membership, officials, players, staff and the cricket loving public of Sri Lanka to Kumar Sangakkara on his nomination as the President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Kumar will be the first non-British president of the MCC, the custodian of the Laws of Cricket and the spirit of the great gentlemen’s game. Currently the President designate, he commences his term on 1 October, and under his tenure the MCC based at the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground will host two England test matches as well as the launch of the ECB’s new 100 ball cricket format event – The Hundred.
“Sangakkara’s prowess on the field demonstrated with his career figures of 12,400 Test runs, more than 14,000 one-day international runs and almost 1,400 T20 runs, as well as his prowess of the field in the arenas of speech and commentary, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and social service has made him a legend, idolised and revered by many, and we at Sri Lanka Cricket, are most delighted that he continues to bring honour and glory to this beautiful island nation.“We wish him the best of success as he takes on his new role,” said SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva.
