SLC distributes cricket equipment worth Rs. 84.3 m to over 100 schools

The program, initiated under the ‘National Pathway’ of Sri Lanka Cricket, distributed equipment to schools playing Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 cricket.

Accordingly, 45 schools were presented senior and junior cricket bags, while 22 schools were given junior cricket bags. Schools playing girls cricket were also among the ones to receive junior cricket bags.

The distribution program, an island-wide initiative under the National Pathway program of Sri Lanka Cricket, was held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo with the attendance of Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Harin Fernando, Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, SLC Treasurer Sujeeva Godaliyadda, and SLC National Development Centre Head Kamal Dharmasiri.

During the ceremony, turf cutters were also given to 38 schools, which have grounds with turf wickets and also play senior school cricket.

Cricket Bags presented to the schools consisted of cricket bats, two on senior bags and three on junior cricket bags, two helmets, three pads, batting gloves, as well as a wicketkeeper’s glove and pads.

This is an annual program conducted by SLC in order to promote the game across the country. SLC will also donate cricket equipment in due course to cricket playing schools island-wide in the coming months. The cricket bags were distributed to the schools in the Colombo district, while schools in the rest of the districts will be presented cricket bags in due course. The total investment for these grants is Rs. 84.3 million.
