Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is launching a new Under-23 Invitational Tournament aiming to provide opportunities for youngsters who are not playing in the Under-23 Major tournament.
Named the ‘SLC Invitational Club Under-23, 50-Over Tournament 2023’, SLC will conduct the tournament with the participation of clubs taking part in the Governor's Trophy, clubs relegated from the Major Club 2022 season, and also Dimbulla C&AC, which has played cricket for more than 100 years.
The new tournament, which will commence on 25 February will provide an opportunity for the talented youngsters who are not part of the ongoing Major Club Under- 23 tournament to perform and come into the reckoning. Depending on the success of this inaugural tournament, the Executive Committee of SLC with the advice of its Tournament Committee will decide on the continuity of it on an annual basis.
The tournament will commence with a card of five matches on 25 February and will run till the final on 26 March. The two group leaders qualify for the final.
The 18 participating clubs are:
GROUP A: Malay CC, Leos CC, Kurunegala SC, Dimbulla C&AC, Rajarata SC, Ratnapura CC, Saracens SC, Lankans CC, Kandy CC.
GROUP B: Moratuwa SC, Old Dharmapalians SC, Rio SC, Singha SC, United Southern SC, Kalutara PCC, Kalutara TC, Gesto CC, Antonians SC.
