SLC launches program to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa distributing cricket equipment to boys and girls schools in the presence of SLC and SLSCA officials

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) yesterday launched a program under its National Pathway to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools across the country, in a bid to enhance school cricket.

Under this program, schools playing in the U13 and U15 Cricket tournaments conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket will receive the donation of cricketing equipment.

Apart from it, 50 Schools playing in the U19 Women’s Cricket Tournament conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket also will be given cricket equipment.

The equipment donated to each school consists of three bats, two helmets, three pairs of batting pads and gloves, a wicket-keeping pad and a glove, and a team cricket bag for each school.

The distribution of cricket equipment commenced this morning in Colombo, under the patronage of Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa, SLC President Shammi Silva, SLC Vice President Ravin Wickramaratne, Schools Cricket Association President Thilak Waththuhewa, SLC Executive Committee Members Sujeewa Godaliyedda and Samantha Dodanwela. Schools Cricket Association Deputy President Oshara Panditharathna was also present during the event.

Speaking during the occasion, the Sports Minister commended SLC for the work done in order to promote the game, both at the school and national level.

Commencing the national program, 66 schools in the Colombo District were given cricketing equipment during the inaugural event held yesterday morning at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

SLC will start distributing cricket equipment to the rest of the schools in the country with immediate effect. Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment, SLC will also take steps to enhance its program towards developing cricketing infrastructure amongst the schools.
