Former ICC Elite Panel Umpire Simon Taufel conducting a workshop at the HPC at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium
Sri Lanka Cricket recently organised a series of workshops to enhance the skills of local umpires, match referees, and umpire trainers, led by former ICC Elite Panel Umpire Simon Taufel.
The training program conducted at the High-Performance Centre (HPC) of the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium from 6-14 October, focused on further enhancing match officiating standards in Sri Lanka.
Taufel, a five-time ICC Umpire of the Year, conducted separate sessions for different match official groups.
Accordingly, 38 Level One and Two umpires were trained in key soft skills like teamwork, mental toughness, handling pressure, and conflict management.
30 referees received guidance on evaluating umpires, writing reports, managing people, and handling critical incidents.
Umpire trainers were taught how to plan training sessions, set up effective training environments, and adopt different teaching styles.
This initiative is part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s broader goal of raising the overall standard of cricket by ensuring that all stakeholders achieve the highest level of competence in their roles.
