Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday officially handed over the $ 2 million donation that it promised to the country’s health sector to purchase essential medicines.
Out of the total grant, $ 1 million was donated to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children to buy essential medicines required for paediatric care for children, while the National Cancer Hospital (Apeksha Hospital) received a donation of $ 1 million to purchase essential medicines for the treatment of cancer patients.
SLC also donated Rs. 22.5 million sponsorship grants for the athletes taking part in the Commonwealth Games 2022. The grant was handed over to Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe by SLC President Shammi Silva.
Further SLC donated a sum of Rs. 100 million to the National Sports Fund. The grant was also handed over to the Minister of Sports by the SLC President.
Ministry of Sports Secretary Anuradha Wijekoon, Ministry of Health Secretary Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, and SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva were among the participants at the ceremony held at the Ministry of Sports.
Sports Director-General Amal Edirisooriya, Health Services Director General Asela Gunawardena, SLC Assistant Treasurer Sujeeva Godaliyadda, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva and Medical Technology Services Director Dr. Anwar Hamdani were also present.
