Sri Lanka Golf Union has made important changes to its Constitution in keeping with current trends and requirements of the Ministry of Sports in Sri Lanka and henceforth the name of the controlling body would be “Sri Lanka Golf.”

The other significant change is to permit the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer, voting rights at Council and other meetings which were denied previously.

Sri Lanka Golf also announced, the entry of a junior male and female player to participate at the 150th Junior Open in Scotland. This event will be held in May alongside the prestigious 150th British Open at St Andrews. Trials are underway to select the pair of junior golfers.

Sri Lanka Golf has also started a Ranking Tournament in preparation to make the grade to secure a medal at the forthcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September 2022.

The Asian Games held under International Olympic rules recognises athletes and do not make a distinction between Professional and Amateur athletes.  “Our professional golfers are therefore available for selection. They too have participated at the initial rounds with an impressive showing at our ranking tournaments,” Sri Lanka Golf said.  Four male golfers and two female golfers will be selected to participate at the Asian Games for medals at individual and team events.

The National, Development and emerging squads together with the Juniors are in training between Royal Colombo Golf Course, Nuwara Eliya and Victoria Golf and Country Club under supervision of Assistant National Coach.

Physical and mental training sessions are held under the supervision of a Ministry of Sport accredited coach.

The 132nd Sri Lanka Amateur Open Golf Championship and the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2022 will tee off at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course from 22 to 28 March. This is the most important event in Sri Lanka Golf’s calendar and will have many overseas entrants vying for recognition alongside Lankan amateur golfers.
