SLIIT showcases sporting prowess with winning streak

SLIIT ‘A’ team won the bronze medal at the ICBT 33 Basketball Tournament held at the KDU Indoor Gymnasium

Participating in sports is recognised as an integral part of student life at SLIIT. With an excellent reputation for sports achievements, SLIIT students continue to excel at the highest national and international levels.

At the recently concluded Northern Province Karate Championship, SLIIT Karate Captain, S. Hovarthan won the Gold medal, the 55 KG Kumite event and also the Silver medal in the Kata event. The Championship was organised by the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation.

Continuing a winning streak, the SLIIT Netball team won the CIMA Sports Day-Netball Championship beating NSBM Green University with a score of 14 – 8. 

Showcasing their talents on courts once again, students representing the SLIIT ‘A’ team won the bronze medal at the ICBT 3 X 3 Basketball Tournament held at the KDU Indoor Gymnasium in August. 

At the XLV National Sports Festival 2019 also concluded last month, M.K.T. Chankamie, a member of SLIIT Chess team won the Bronze medal at XLV National Sports Festival 2019. The tournament was held from 20-24 September.

The SLIIT Chess team shone at the Buddhi International Chess Championship 2019. They were adjudged winners of the Championship in the Higher Education sector at 10th Buddhi International Chess Championship 2019. The tournament was held from 12-16 September at Nittambuwa.

The SLIIT Chess team shone at the Buddhi International Chess Championship 2019 

The SLIIT Sports council promotes sports and recreational activities while students engage in a wide range of sports activities, which include; Badminton, basketball, chess, carom, cricket, football, futsal, hockey, karate, netball, rugby, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, water polo and volleyball. 

Demonstrating the wealth of talent, SLIIT students continue to perform extremely well, excelling in national and international sporting arenas. The Malabe campus is equipped with exceptional indoor and outdoor sports facilities including a large playground, tennis courts, a basketball court, indoor badminton courts and a well-equipped gymnasium.
