Sadeesh Jayawardena guided Sri Lanka with a brilliant century against Bangladesh
Opener Sadeesh Jayawardena stroked a brilliant century to guide Sri Lanka to comprehensive five-wicket win over Bangladesh in their opening match of the Tri-Nation Under-19 cricket tournament played at Tolerance Oval, Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Jayawardena hit nine fours and two sixes in his 122-ball innings for 101 as Sri Lanka chased down a winning target of 230.
Jayawardena and Hirun Kapurubandara (52 off 51 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) set the tone for the run chase with an opening stand of 95 after which Hiran Jayasundara (35 off 42 balls) took Sri Lanka home with 33 balls to spare.
Earlier leg-spinner Malsha Tharupathi took three wickets for three wickets for 35 runs to restrict Bangladesh to 229-8.
It was Bangladesh’s second defeat having lost the curtain-raiser match of the tournament to Afghanistan by seven wickets on Saturday.
