Samita Dulan Kodithuwakku of the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police won a silver medal in the javelin throw at the Paris Paralympic Games, setting a new world record in the men’s F44 category with a throw of 67.03 metres.
Despite breaking the world record, Sumit Antil of India claimed the gold in the F64 category with a throw of 70.59 metres.
This achievement marks one of the highest performances by a Sri Lankan athlete at the Paralympics.
Kodithuwakku previously won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2020 and is the only Sri Lankan to secure a medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
