Sri Lanka’s current leading amateur golfer B.A. Sanjeewa dominated the Pin Fernando Grand Prix 2017 October edition with some scintillating golf over the three-round 54-hole event, powered by CAT SOLAR.
Sanjeewa fired a 7 under par first round, followed by a 5 under par second round and closed the October edition with an emphatic 10 under par, three-round total, winning by four strokes over the consistent J.M.D. Indika, who returned three 2 under par rounds.
Sanjeewa stretched his Grand Prix monthly edition wins to six out of 10 played so far in the CAT SOLAR powered Grand Prix Ratings 2017.
Sanjeewa further enhanced his position at the top of the Grand Prix rankings, collecting 400 points out of a maximum of 450 available in the three-round October edition. Indika proved his consistency, returning three rounds of 2 under par each to clinch second place on 6 under par, whilst another senior leading Amateur Amarapadma secured third place with 214.
Youngster Chalitha Pushpika continued his good form to finish fourth and promises to be a dark horse along with M.U. Chanaka Perera, another promising youngster, and poses a threat in the match play format to win the upcoming Sri Lanka National Amateur Golf Championship.
The top players are geared up and ready to clinch the 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship 2017 on 14 October with the 36-hole final scheduled for 19 October. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh comprise the international challenge. Sri Lanka won the championship last in 2012 when Thangaraja won it for Sri Lanka.
G.P. Sisira Kumara, who is also in good form, finished in fifth place and is undoubtedly a leading contender, having being the runner-up at the 129th Sri Lanka Amateur Championship 2016, knocking out top Indian golfers but losing to the eventual winner from Thailand Namuangruk in the final.
