Sanjeewa Wickremanayake will defend his title at the famous Donald Steel Trophy Golf Tournament, which will be worked off at the picturesque Victoria Golf and Country Resort (VGCR) on 15 February.
Haroon Aslam, a sixteen-year-old schoolboy from the Central Province, will also be a strong contender for the big prize given his consistent performances over the recent past at the Nuwara Eliya event.
This year too there will be more than 70 players teeing off for top honours at this blue ribbon event on the country’s golf calendar.
The award-winning Donald Steel Trophy Golf Tournament is played on a course which sprawls across the country’s hills and borders the Victoria reservoir, offering stunning views of the surrounding scenery.
The proud winner of the award for ‘The Best Golf Course in the Subcontinent’, presented by Asian Golf Monthly, on no less than nine occasions, the 73 par, 6933-yard championship 18-hole golf course is designed according to United States Golf Association standards.
Majestically crafted with beautiful fairways lined with trees, the flowering shrubs and light rough add to the beauty of the course, while also making it challenging. Additionally, the surrounding landscape with the neighbouring Knuckles mountain range and still waters of the vast Victoria reservoir create an awe-inspiring atmosphere of magnificence, peace and tranquillity.
