Saracens SC and Army SC consolidated their positions at the top of Group A and Group D with facile victories in the rescheduled matches of the SLC Major T20 inter-club tournament played yesterday.
Saracens SC beat an SSC side without several regulars by eight wickets bundling them out for 87 and then knocking off the runs in 14 overs to put themselves in a position to qualify for a place in the semi-finals.
Army SC also strengthened their hand at Group D by beating Galle CC by 37 runs. Only the four group leaders go through to the knockout round.
Sri Lankan players figured prominently in CCC’s six wickets win over Air Force SC. Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara took three wickets as Air Force SC were pegged down to a total of 128-7, then Ashan Priyanjan with 43 off 25 balls (3 sixes, 4 fours) and Minod Bhanuka 58 off 47 balls (4 sixes, 2 fours) took CCC home with 25 balls to spare.
Spinners Akila Dananjaya and Muditha Lakshan shared six wickets as they spun Colts to a four-wicket win over Police SC in a low scoring match.
It was the spinners who were instrumental in Kandy Customs CC beating Negombo CC by 43 runs. Methushan Thilina and Mithun Jayawickrama took six wickets between them to bowl Negombo CC out for 74 chasing a Kandy Customs CC total of 117-8.
In the other match concluded yesterday Ragama CC beat Chilaw Marians CC by three wickets with two balls to spare.
