Second half burst helps Army sink Sailors

A superb second half burst took Army Sports Club through to a bonus point win over Navy Sports Club by 33 points (5 tries, 4 conversions) to 10 points (1 try, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) at Welisara last evening.

At the short breather Sailors led 10/0.

Navy Sports Club drew first blood through Dananjaya Senevirathna try in the 11th minute of the game. Stevan Sansoni added the extras to take an early 7/0 lead. Another Sansoni penalty took the Sailors in to a 10/0 lead at the short breather.

After the turn around it was one horse race as Army SC planted as many as 5 unanswered tries through Sudaraka Dikkubura (2), Lasantha kumara, Sampath Wijerathna and Lahiru Rathnayake. Ashan Bandara converted 4 of them.

Referee was Deepal Punyawardena.

Today there will be two matches down for decision in Colombo. First one is between Air Force SC and Police SC at Ratmalana while CH and FC will battle it out with Havelock SC at the Royal Sports Complex. Meanwhile the League decider encounter between unbeaten CR and FC and Kandy SC will be played at Longdon Place on 18 February.
