Army SC flanker Kaveen Perera on a powerful move

In an exciting Plate Inter-Club Rugby encounter at the Racecourse Ground, Army SC secured a convincing 35/16 victory over Sri Lions.

At the short breather, it was Sri Lions who led 16/12.

The match showed intense competition, with both teams displaying skilful attacking and defensive plays, with Sri Lions in top form and Army SC hitting back in the later half with 23 unanswered points.

Sri Lions opened the scoring with two well-executed tries from Dinuk Amarasinghe and Denuwan Silva. Their early momentum was further supported by the accurate kicking of Chanaka Chandimal, who slotted in two penalties. However, Army SC responded effectively, gradually gaining control of the game through structured plays and powerful forward drives. Army SC scored their first-half tries through Kasun Bandara and Dhanilsha Dissanayake. One of the try conversions was successfully taken by Isuru Medegedera.

After the turnaround, the Soldiers looked a completely different outfit with attacking positivity. They scored tries through Kasun Bandara and Dhanilsha Dissanayake. Gayan Salinda converted both and put over two penalties as well.

Despite Sri Lions’ efforts to counter, Army SC’s solid defence and disciplined play denied them any further breakthroughs. The final whistle confirmed Army SC’s dominance with a well-earned bonus point victory, reinforcing their position as a strong contender in the Plate Inter-Club Rugby tournament along with CH and Police.

The referee was Raveen Alexander. (SJ)
