CR came back after a poor first half to burst in the later half to beat Havelock Sports Club by 25 points (4 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 10 points (1 try, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) in one of the key Inter Club Rugby League encounters which concluded at Longdon Place last weekend.
With this win Red Shirts will safe keep the Matthysz Trophy at Longdon Place club for yet another year. This trophy was on offer first in 2004.
At the short breather it was the Park Club who led 7/3.
Udara Lakshan scored Havies only try which was goaled by Samuel Maduwantha. CR replied with a penalty in the first half put over by Thenuka Nanayakkara.
After the turn around CR re grouped and played with a purpose. Gemunu Chethiya touched down CR first try which took them in to the lead 8/7 for the first time in the game but Janith Chandimal penalty took the Park Club into the lead at 10/8. Two more Red Shirts by Soorya Dodangoda and Kushan Tharindu try took them in to safety. During the last minute of play they scored a push over try through Venura Kothagoda.
