Kaya Daluwatte and Jevahn Sathasivam both had sensational starts on the initial day of the Prima Sunrise Bread Regional Junior Open Golf in Hambantota yesterday.
More than 60 golfers teed off in the event which returned to Southern part of the Island after the year 2020. This event is once again sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread.
In Gold for Boys Jevahn Sathasivam took an early lead with an impressive score of 75, one shot ahead of Yannik Kumara, who finished the day with a score of 76. Adithya Weerasinghe closely followed carding a 77.
Meanwhile, the defending champion, Reshan Algama, faced a challenging round, concluding with a score of 80. His performance was marred by a disappointing finish, as he lost five shots in the last two holes.
Gold for Girls saw Kaya Daluwatte steal the spotlight with a remarkable score of 69, leading the pack significantly. She shot 1 under par showing what next to come in the coming 2 days of play. Sithara Lorance and Keya Abeyratne finished with scores of 92 and 94 respectively along with Kaitlyn Norton ended the day at 96 with lot of catch up work to be done.
Silver Division Boys saw Kaveesha Sandaruwan as the standout performer, finishing with a score of 89, while Lithum Silva closely followed him at 107.
In the highly competitive Bronze for Boys division, Lavindu Premarathne emerged as the leader with an excellent score of 57, followed closely by Revaan Amarasinghe at 59. Ronald Scorefild rounded out the top three with a score of 70.
Bronze for Girls division featured strong performances from Vihara Herath with a score of 62 and Genuli Weerakoon at 65.
Among the youngest competitors, Abiman Abeywardena seized the lead in the Cooper Division Boys, scoring a stellar 40. Yuvan Rathis Kanth and Jaeden Sathasivam followed with scores of 42 and 43 respectively.
In the Copper Girls category, Dulkini Kangara led with a score of 50, while Hakshhara Pradeep finished at 65.
Exciting two days of golf awaits at Shangri - La, Hambantota today (19 October) and tomorrow (20 October) organised by Sri Lanka Golf Junior Sub Committee.
