Sri Lanka’s white-ball Captain Dasun Shanaka missed out on his team’s second World Cup warm-up match against Afghanistan at Guwahati yesterday following an injury to his left hand.
Shanaka suffered the injury to his left elbow during Sri Lanka’s first warm-up match against Bangladesh last Friday.
“Shanaka has been given an injection to his injured elbow and told to rest his hand. He has been told not to lift anything heavy like the cricket bat. Hopefully, he will be fit for Sri Lanka’s opening World Cup game against South Africa on Saturday (7 October),” said Sri Lanka Team Manager Mahinda Halangoda.
A media release from Sri Lanka Cricket states that Shanaka is “recovering from a strain on his left elbow and that he is under medical treatment and in the process of recovery”.
Meanwhile, Kusal Perera who experienced pain in his right shoulder during Sri Lanka's warm-up game against Bangladesh is currently under medical treatment and is recovering.
Maheesh Theekshana who did not travel with the team to India on 26 September recovering from a hamstring tear will join the squad today.
