Benedictine skipper Shan Shanmuganathan celebrates his double century
|
Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer and St. Benedict’s College Captain Sharujan Shanmuganathan hammered an unbeaten double century – his best batting performance in the school circuit to propel St. Benedict’s to their highest total of the season in the Under-19 traditional school cricket encounter against St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya at Kotahena.
Shanmuganathan hit 17 fours and 8 sixes in his innings of 202* which came off 183 balls. His knock powered the home team to 410-7 declared in reply to the Peterites total of 378. He reached his century off 107 balls and took a further 49 balls to get to 150. The last 50 of his double century took just 27 balls.
The Bens have been struggling the whole season and had to play the relegation league before retaining their place in the top tier of the Under 19 Division I tournament. On such a backdrop their performance was a huge turnaround as they earned first innings honours against the Peterites.
