The SpeedBay race track at Port City Colombo played host to a unique karting race event for businesses in the container shipping agency operations.
The Sri Lanka Association of NVOCC Agents (SLANA) in collaboration with SpeedBay organised the “SLANA Karting Challenge 2023” on 27 July 2023. This event brought together staff members from over 50 member companies of SLANA.
CASS Lubricants, the authorised distributor for LUKOIL Automotive and Industrial Lubricants in Sri Lanka, were the principal sponsors of this event. The karting challenge attracted 50 competitors who competed across three distinct categories; the Professional and Amateur Class for men and the Ladies Event. The competing men initially took part in qualifying sessions to classify them into the professional and amateur classes and determine their starting positions in the heats, while the women competitors also took part in qualifying to determine the start grid for the heats. Top performers progressed to the finals.
There was a festive atmosphere at SpeedBay on the race day attracting a considerable number of spectators to cheer for their racing colleagues. The DJ music, food truck and the LUKOIL branding that surrounded the track and the LUKOIL stickered karts made it a vibrant event.
The culmination of the event featured the distribution of trophies, medals and special gifts to the winners of each category. Awards were also presented to both male and female competitors who clocked the fastest lap time during the race.
