Katugastota Antonians will be playing their last first-round encounter when they host Thomians in their Singer League 2018 rugby encounter which will be worked off at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium today (24).

Kick-off is scheduled at 4/15 pm.

Both teams are yet to register a win this season. Antonians after leading majority of the playing time lost out to Trinity in their opener 11/15. Later on, they were thumped by Royal and Joes both by half a century plus points while the Kingswood game too they lost out.

Meanwhile, Thomians too are going through a dark patch losing out all their games this season. They were well and beaten by Joes and Royal, losing out both trophy encounters played for Lady Jayathilake Trophy and Michael Gunaratne trophy respectively. Then the Kingswood game they lost out by a two-try difference. Trinity encounter played for Canon de Seram trophy too lost out in a rainy affair up in the hills.

Skipper Christian de Lile, Bimsara Eriyagama, and Aaron Fernando are the star players for the Mount Lavinia outfit this season while the Antonians skipper, Kavinda Amarakoon, Mohamed Makrim, Mohamed Shabeer and Ishan Liyanage are the ones who could make a difference for the Katugastota lads in today’s encounter.

Playing at home the lads from Katugastota hold the edge over their rivals but still the final results will not make a difference as both teams will need to play in the Plate segment in round 2 along with the other groups Rajans and DS outfits. They will be joined by four top teams from 1B.

Referee Aruna Shantha.
