By Shamseer Jaleel

Royal 18 points

St Joseph’s 13 points

Royal continued their winning streak towards the Bradby First Leg in 2 weeks’ time when they edged out Joes by 18 points (1 goal, 1 try, 2 penalties) to 13 points (1 goal, 2 penalties) at the Havelock Park last Friday (6 April).

At the short breather, Royal led 10/7.  Ifham Faleel and Himantha Hirushan touched down for the Reid Avenue boys, while Dulan Gunawardena put over 2 penalties plus one try conversion. Though the game was fought out closely by both teams, Joes made a number of basic errors which cost them the game. The battle is lost for Joes but the war is yet to be won by either Royal or Joes, as Joes still have an outside chance to clinch the league.

Trinity win Canon de Seram Trophy

Trinity 34 points

St Thomas 24 points

Trinity College continued their dominance in the Canon de Seram trophy series, with a 34/24 win over Thomians at Pallekele Stadium under wet conditions.

At the short breather Trinity led 13/3. The game should have been started earlier due to the rain in the Hills, with the last 20 minutes of the game being played under semi-darkness. For the home team, tries were scored by Mohamed Ikram, Mahadi Abdullah, Amith Kulatunge, Danidu Herath and Lenox Calyanaratne. For the Thomians, this is the nail on the coffin, as they will be demoted to play in the Plate segment. They scored through Lashana De Silva, Sakith Perera and Bimsara Eriyagama, putting over the conversions and a penalty kick.
