Peters favoured to win

By Shamseer Jaleel

St. Peter’s College having played all their second round matches with 45 points is favoured to pull it off in the Singer League 2019. But do not write off Royal when they face Joes at home today. If the Reid Avenue outfit secures a bonus point win over Joes by scoring 4 or more tries then they too will have a good chance of winning the league in tandem for the third year.

The only other Cup segment encounter will be between Trinity and Wesley which will decide their position for the President Trophy encounters which will be kicked off soon after the completion of the league.

Joes who are going through a lean patch after losing out to Wesley (13/15) and St. Peter’s (21/23) in their last two outings have no chance of creating history in the league. They have never won it and the maximum they could do is end up at number 2.

Joes have some outstanding players such as Rehan Gunawardena, Santhush Algama, Tharindu Maduranga, Tharindu De Alwis and Teran Karunanayake in their starting line-up.

For Royal, their skipper Thulaib Hassen is outstanding and omnipresent this season. He was a class above the rest leading from the front. He is well supported by Radesh Wijeratne, Kevin Samarasekera, Fadhil Adhan Lehan Gunaratne and Dilshan Jayah, all players in peak this season.

Referee: Priyantha Gunaratne.

Wesley and Trinity play for pride

Both Trinity College and Wesley College both will play for pride when they lock horns at the Sugathadasa Stadium today.

Wesley was in cracking form defeating Isipathana and Joes but it was shocking to be defeated by the Science when they took things too easy and underestimated and rested their senior players against the Mount Lavinia School in their last encounter.

Trinity will heavily depend on their skipper Reshan Bandarayake who had a grand season leading from the front.

He had a game of his life against Royal when they humbled the Reid Avenue outfit in Colombo winning by 24/13. He will be well supported by Mahdee Abdulla, Janidu Ratnayake and Harsha Samarasinghe, all playing top class electrifying fast paced rugby this season.

Wesley, led by Mursheed Doray, supported by Kavindana Perera, Gamanpilla and Jayweera, are no pushovers in the league.

Referee: Gihan Yatawara.
