The Singer Rugby League 2018 will kick off today when the defending league champions Royal College host the Kingswoodians at the Royal Sports Complex. Singer Sri Lanka who have been propping up with Sri Lanka Schools rugby for more than two decades will once again sponsor this year›s event.
Kick off is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. Royal led by winger Shabith Feroze have got an outstanding outfit under their Head Coach Dushantha Lewke. Meanwhile, the Kingswoodians, the first school to start playing rugby in the country will be led by Tharindu Weligampola and coached by Dinesh Gamage.
The game will be refereed by Dinka Peiris.
The Petrites are very fortunate to have the best junior coach in the country Sanath Martis back at the Bambalapitiya school after his short spell with Royal. The Antonians too have a very good side with the same side being the Under-16 All Island Champions a few years back. Trinity will have an uphill task when they confront top class schools. Trinity last won the League in 1987 under Tyrel Rajapakse. The side contained some top class players such as Shah Dole, Inthi Marikar, Lohan Ratwatte, Rohan Ranaraja, and Rajeev Bandaranyake.
