Sisira Kumara shoots six under par final round to win in Koggala

George Patrick Sisira Kumara fired a fantastic six under par 66 in the final round of the LECTRA Grand Prix May Edition, played at the picturesque Eagles Catalina Golf Club, Koggala, an excellent nine-hole golf course with two sets of Tee Markers for each Hole. 

The beautifully placed golf course at the edge of Madhu Ganga is relatively short but the windy conditions make scoring very tough and only three golfers broke Par in the last Round. 

However, Sisira Kumara, a very talented dou fighter, four strokes behind the leader Amarapadma, playing the final round, fired on all cylinders to shoot a brilliant six under par 66 to sail in to the lead and snatch the May Edition of the LECTRA Grand Prix from overnight leader Amarapadma to register a great win by two strokes. Amateur National Champion M.U. Chanaka Perera returned a one under par final round to secure third place.

The LECTRA Grand Prix monthly scores are counted for the World Amateur Golf rankings (WAGR) and the competitive golf played monthly is because of Sponsor Apparel Technologies by the Bobbin Group of Companies. The Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) conducts the LECTRA Grand Prix in conjunction with member golf clubs, hosting the event in rotation at some of the best golf courses in Sri Lanka. A solemn prize giving followed the event with SLGU Secretary Nishan Navaratne and Eagles Catalina Golf Course Manager Squadron Leader Prasanna Rupasinghe in attendance along with SLGU Manager Finance Duminda De Soysa and SLGU Administration Executive Pradeep Kumara.Nishan Navaratne appreciated the host course for the excellent conditions and arrangements to conduct the LECTRA Grand Prix May Edition and specially thanked the Eagles Catalina Golf Course Koggala President and Koggala Sri Lanka Air Force Base Commanding Officer Group Captain Hiumal Dharmadasa, not forgetting the generous sponsor of the LECTRA Grand Prix 2019, Apparel Technologies by the Bobbin Group.
