Just a six-year-old lad from Colombo International School (CIS), Virendra Liyanawala won the Lake Cross organised by the Nuwara Eliya Motor Sports Club, which concluded in the Hill Country recently.
More significant in his win was that lead maintained between him, and the number 2 was nearly half a round.
Earlier in his career of racing, the young lad won the 4th place at the age of five years in the Mirigama event and later in the Gajaba Super Cross 2022 he was placed number 4 once more. In his third event earlier this year he won the first place in the Nuwara Eliya Motor Sports Club’s Lake Cross 2023 event.
He is also involved in karate, swimming and athletics for his school and planning to take part in Junior Motocross season 3 in Malaysia later this year.
He is trained by Jacques Gunawardena who currently holds the national championship at his JShark MX Academy. (SJ)
