South Asian under-21 Regional Badminton Championships Sri Lanka team leaves for Maldives

Sri Lankan shuttlers who will take part in the South Asian under-21 regional Badminton Championships 2019 in Addu City, Maldives, posing for a photograph Sri Lanka Badminton President Rohan de Silva at the SLB Headquarters prior to their departure on Thursday. Kanchana Wimalasuriya, manager of the touring contingent, Tharanga Wimalasuriya, lady chaperon and Coach Yukthi Rangana are also present. 


A 13-member team on Thursday left for Maldives where they will take part in the South Asian under-21 Regional Badminton Championships 2019.

The championships will be held from October 5-10 at Addu City in Maldives.

The touring team includes Dumindu Abeywickrema, Ranthushka Sasindu, Sethum Perera, Digayu Kahatapitiya, Lakindu Ranaweera,Praween Bhanuka, Nadun Punchihewa, Hasara Wijeratne, Hasini Ambalangoda, Ashini Fernandi, Nayanathara Teshani, Jananuwani Amanda and Chathuli Ishara.

Dumindu Abeywickrema and Ranthushka Sasindu will compete in the men’s singles while Digayu Kahatapitiya and Lakindu Ranaweera will team up in the men’s doubles competition.

Hasini Ambalangoda and Hasara Wijeratne will represent the country in the women’s singles. Hasara will also compete in the women’s doubles along with Nayanathara Teshani.

In the mixed doubles, Sri Lanka will be represented by  Bhanuka/Nayanathara and Nadun Punchihewa/Chathuli Ishara.

Kanchana Wimalasuriya is the manager of the touring contingent and Tharanga Wimalasuriya will be the lady chaperon. 

The team is coached by Yukthi Rangana.

All expenses of the tour are borne by Sri Lanka Badminton and the Sports Ministry.
