Faldo Series Asia Finals kicked off yesterday with an impressive display from Sri Lankan golfer Reshan Algama, who finished his opening round with a one-under-par score of 70 in Vietnam.

Reshan’s solid start places him in a commendable fourth position within the competitive Under-16 age segment. On top was Vietnamese, Tuan Anh Nguyen, whose remarkable six-under-par round of 65 has set a high bar for the remaining competitors. Following Nguyen is a pair of strong contenders: Anne Hay and Daichi Havashi, both hailing from Vietnam and Japan respectively, who carded rounds of two-under-par 69.

The Faldo Series has always been an essential platform for emerging young golfers, providing them exposure and experience on an international stage. Taking place at the Nick Faldo signature course in Dang Hang, the tournament not only showcases some of the best junior talents in the region but also serves as a critical opportunity for rising competitors to earn valuable world ranking points. In the girls Under-16 segment Kaya Daluwatta also had a notable start, finishing her round with a score of six over par 77, which currently places her in 10th. Leading the girls’ category is Thailand’s Pimpakorn, who managed to stay steady with an even-par score of 71. Both Algama and Daluwatta are within striking distance of podium finishes, with two more days left to play, offering them the chance to capitalise on their potential and improve their standings.

As the tournament progresses, both Algama and Daluwatta are poised to take full advantage of this invaluable opportunity for growth and experience among Asia’s elite juniors, as well as some competitors from Europe.
