Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday appointed a Special Investigation Unit comprising of a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and a Superintendent of Police (SP) for the period of three years, with effect from 15 February, in order to implement the legal provisions of the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act No. 24 of 2019.

The two members appointed were W. A. J. H. Fonseka, SSP (Director/Chief) and S. M. J. Samaranayake SP (Deputy Director).

The appointments were made by the Minister in keeping with the words vested in him under Section 21 of the Prevention of Offences relating to Sports Act.
