Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe yesterday apologised to the alleged victim of sexual assault by Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka which he termed as “irresponsible individual act” as well as to Australian people.

“Irresponsible individual act! As the minister in charge of the subject of sports I wish to tender my apology to the concerned party in Australia, the Australian government , the people of Australia and the @ICC of the irresponsible individual  act of @danushka_70,” Sports Minister tweeted yesterday.

“I’m deeply concerned and would take the responsibility on behalf of my country and its people to take necessary and remedial action accordingly,” he added.
