Sports Minister Harin Fernando called an emergency meeting with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials and demanded a “proper plan” for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the rest of 2024.
The meeting addressed the team’s disappointing performances in 2023, including the ODI and Under-19 World Cup losses, and scrutinised existing plans for the future.
“Emphasised the need for a comprehensive and action plan that includes player development, team selection and overall access to cricket,” stated the Minister on social media.
He further mentioned, “Also, advised to submit a “proper plan” for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the remainder of 2024. This also includes the plan of strategies for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and America in June 2024. Meanwhile, focused on Under-19 cricket and also discussed the measures to be taken for promotion.”
Following intense discussions, Fernando demanded a concrete plan from SLC.
