Sports Minister suspends five national sports bodies

The registration of five national sports associations/federations has been temporarily suspended by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Harin Fernando via a Gazette notification.

The five national sports associations/federations suspended by the Gazette issued on 22 December are: Sri Lanka Archery Association, Sri Lanka Kabbadi Association, Sri Lanka Wrestling Federation, Sri Lanka Bridge Federation and Sri Lanka Roller Skating Association. 

The Gazette notification further states that the Department of Sports Development Director-General Professor (Rear Admiral) Shemal Fernando has been appointed the competent authority on 21 December as a temporary mechanism to proceed with administrative and other required activities of the five national sports associations/federations and to call and conduct relevant elections as well as to perform the duties appropriately until then.
