Sri Lanka ‘A’ lose to Pakistan ‘A’; Bangladesh ‘A’ beat Sri Lanka ‘B’

  • India ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’ continue unbeaten run

India ‘A’ and Pakistan ‘A’ remained undefeated and lead group A and B respectively at the end of the fourth day of the Lawyers Cricket World Cup being played in Sri Lanka. Bangladesh ‘A’ and India ‘B’ won their games yesterday but Sri Lanka ‘A’ and Sri Lanka ‘B’ were unable to impress.

A half ton by Zia Ul Saboor Khan saw Pakistan ‘A’ reach 199/3 at the Air Force ground Katunayake but Sri Lanka ‘A’ fell short by 42 runs in the chase. Kasun Hettiarachchi was the only batter to pass the 20 run mark for Sri Lanka and was unbeaten on 30 when he ran out of partners.

At the Army Artillery ground at the Panagoda, Bangladesh ‘A’ defeated Sri Lanka ‘B’ by seven wickets. Sri Lanka ‘B’ scored 161 in their complement of 35 overs but an unbeaten 77 off 92 balls with 11 boundaries and a six by Imran Hassan Rony and an unbeaten 35 off 29 balls from Sakibur Rahman saw Bangladesh ‘A’ win with more than five overs to spare.

In a game reduced to 30 overs per side played at the Army ground Panagoda, India ‘A’ crushed Bangladesh ‘B’ by 187 runs. Electing to bat first India ‘A’ posted 229/6 with Nadeem Khan smashing 67 off 39 balls which included three boundaries and half a dozen sixes while Astubosh Tiwari, Sushen Dilip Bharshikar and Shikhar Chaudhary restricted Bangladesh ‘B’ to 42 in 16.2 overs

At the Thurstan ground Karthik Veerabadhu shined with ball and bat (3-22 and 58) to help India ‘B’ register their third win from four outings by defeating the Commonwealth team by five wickets.

The game between Barristers of England & Wales and Pakistan ‘B’ which was to be played at the LRDC ground in Nawala was called off without a ball being bowled due to damp ground conditions and will be replayed on Thursday.
