Sri Lanka Air Force hosts junior golfers from Anuradhapura

The Sri Lanka Golf Union, the governing body of golf, in conjunction with the Sri Lanka Air Force joined hands in further promoting the development of the sport islandwide when the SLAF hosted the junior golfers from Anuradhapura at their picturesque eagles golf links course in China Bay. 

The youngsters were treated to an entire weekend of golf which included a day of intensive training followed by an 18-hole golf tournament. 

There was delightful enthusiasm among the juniors, all of whom were experiencing playing a links course for the very first time. The youngsters also benefitted from an intensive training program conducted by SLG coaching professional Priya Hemantha who was on hand throughout the weekend to help the kids in all aspects of the game.

The 18-hole tournament on the lengthy and challenging Eagles links course was played in  Gold Division (age group 15-18), Silver Division (12-14 years) and Bronze Division novices category (11 years and below). 

Sri Lanka Golf Junior Subcommittee Chairperson Niloo Jayatilake said: “My sincere thanks to the SLAF for hosting these juniors to a wonderful golfing experience and providing all the facilities at the Eagles Golf Course, China Bay. Some of these youngsters showed immense talent and properly nurtured will hopefully achieve national representation. A special thank you also to Usha de Silva who has always been a generous benefactor of the junior golf development program for sponsoring the golf balls for the kids.”

The awards were presented by Sri Lanka Air Force Group Captain Dammika Samarakoon, Squadron Leader Asantha Gunarathna and Squadron Leader Lasantha Withanarchchie.
