M.U. Chanaka Perera the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Champion 2019 played quality golf firing a scintillating six under par final round to win the October edition of the LECTRA Grand Prix 2019 at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club.

Playing alongside co-leaders, B. A. Sanjeewa and local star Vinoth Kumar after round 3, Perera asserted his superiority firing a series of seven Birdies on the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 14th, 17th 18th, with an Eagle thrown in for good measure on the 10th. Putting pressure on the co-leaders to fall apart, eventually Perera marched on to a magnificent victory by a very comfortable 12 strokes.

Perera appears to have turned the corner from Amateur champ to Professional, completing the four rounds of the LECTRA Grand Prix 2019 with a score of five under par.

His six under par 65 was despite dropping three bogeys on the 11th, 12th and 15th holes, which confirms his ability to score even better with him being effectively nine under in eight holes.

Perera received special training in Singapore after winning the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship earlier this year, and the meticulous training program conducted by the Sri Lanka

Golf Union in association with the Ministry of Sports and the assistance rendered by the NOC, seems to have borne fruit, with the fitness, mental strength and all else falling into place.

The competition among the National Players is healthy and several aspects of practice, gym training, nutrition supplement and other requirements are monitored closely by the Secretary SLGU and his team at Sri Lanka Golf.

Apparel Technologies by the Bobbin Group of Companies Sponsored the LECTRA Grand Prix 2019, played monthly on different Member Golf Courses, providing the platform for the National pool players to keep trim, stay focused and sharpen their game.

The Sri Lanka men’s and women’s Teams for the SAG Golf Championship meanwhile continue to train and are scheduled to take wing shortly to Nepal, with the contingent quietly confident of securing medals.
