Sri Lanka Emerging team currently touring Japan was given a scare in their opening T20 match played at the Sano International Cricket ground in Sano on Wednesday before winning by five wickets.
Having restricted Japan to 97-6 with skipper Dellon Peiris being the key bowler taking three wickets for 20, Sri Lanka Emerging lost their first five wickets for 50 runs in 8.2 overs.
However, Ranmith Jayasena joined by his captain steadied the innings and carried the team to victory with 27 balls to spare. The two figured in an unbroken partnership of 48 for the sixth wicket. Jayasena finished unbeaten on 25 and Peiris made 17*.
The second T20 match in a series of five will be played today at the same venue.
