The Second Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Championships 2024 commenced with hot and humid Colombo temperatures and challenging course conditions, stretching the top amateur golfers to their limits on Day 1 at the Royal Colombo Golf Course yesterday.
Chalitha Pushpika emerged as one of the top performers, delivering a commendable one-over-par 72 score. Adithya Weerasinghe, the 15-year-old top class junior golfer hailing from Anurdhapura and supported by the HSBC Future Lions program, showed his talent with a two-over-par 73 score, proving that age is no barrier to excellence on the greens.
Sri Lanka’s leading amateur, 16-year-old Reshan Algama matched Weerasinghe’s performance, also carding a two-over-par round to secure a joint second position after Day 1.
With three more days of intense competition ahead, the mental fortitude of these young golfers will undoubtedly come into play as they strive to maintain their positions and secure crucial world
ranking points.
Day 2 will take place today.
