Sri Lanka Men’s Rugby outfit under Srinath Sooriyabandara put up a brave effort against England scoring on three occasions in their second group outing.

Sri Lanka started off the Games with a game against the defending champions New Zealand, losing out in the end at 63/5. Sri Lanka’s only try was scored by Tharinda Ratwatte.

Sri Lanka put up a great effort before going down to England 47/19 with the tries scored by Srinath Sooriyabandara, Buddhima Piyaratne and Tharinda Ratwatte.

Sri Lanka giving all out for England game cost them the Samoa game losing out 44 to nothing. Only opportunity of scoring was in the very last minute when Chathura Senenviratne dropped the ball on the try line.

Meanwhile playing for the ranking’s Sri Lanka went down to Uganda 38/19 with the tries scored by Buddhima Piyaratne, Srinarth Sooriyabandara and Reza Rafaideen.



Sri Lanka outclasses Zambia

Sri Lanka playing for the 13th position beat Zambia 27/14 in the semi final encounter. Sri Lankan tries were scored by Nigel Ratwatte (2), Tharinda Ratwatte, Buddhima Piyaratne and Danushka Dyan. Sri Lanka Men’s outfit will play Jamaica in the play off for 13th place out of the 16 teams in the Games.



Women’s segment

 Sri Lanka were yard slower in the segment losing out to England 57/0, Scotland 58/0 and Canada 74/0.

Sri Lanka will play South Africa for the seventh place on offer.
