Female referees who took part in the course with officials
Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees (SLSRFR) together with South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) empowered a new generation of female rugby referees with the awareness program at the Havelock Sports Club ground recently.
SLSRFR stepped up to actively facilitate the entry of more female referees on the field, in alignment with World Rugby (WR) and Asia Rugby (AR) with emphasis towards gender balance.
Thirty female referees from across the island covering the Western, Central, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Uva Provinces participated in the program comprising current and former national and school level players. A few of this group of referees have already taken up the whistle during the schools’ league, Mercantile Sevens, Ritzbury Junior Rugby Carnival, and the Central and Southern Province tournaments.
SAGT, a corporate sponsor, is committed to empowering females both on and off the field. – (SJ)
