Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) Council will meet next week in order to take some vital decisions for the oval shaped ball game to continue in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Sevens outfit will participate at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in England during July and August. SLR Annual General Meeting (AGM) appointing of office bearers will take place along with the Provincial Development, finance and sponsorship. The Inter Club league for 2022/2023 is expected to kick off in November.
Nippon Rugby League 2022 decision on the remaining matches too will be taken at this meeting. SLR is expected to meet the stake holders, clubs, and sponsors before coming to the final decision on this matter. With the current country situation and safety of players and officials will take top priority by SLR.
Under 21 and Under 24 by WPRFU postponed
Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) conducted Under 21 and Under 24 tournaments were postponed due to the Forces not been able to lock horns due to their duty requirements and leave were cancelled. These events are scheduled to take place soon after the Advanced Level examinations in August. Majority of the players in these age groups will be in action during the next inter Club season for the leading 8 teams.
Commonwealth training given priority
Commonwealth Rugby Sevens outfits for Men’s and Women’s already been selected with 20 players each and the final 12 will be selected later next month from each team. Former Isipathana and Kandy SC player, Srinarth Sooriyabandara will lead the Men’s outfit while Anusha Attanayake will lead the Ladies who will turn out for the country for the very first time at Commonwealth Games.
