Sri Lanka Rugby signs up new sponsors for National 7s outfits for Commonwealth Games 2022

Sri Lanka Rugby has signed up with their new Sponsors of the National Men’s and Women’s Sevens rugby outfits which will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in UK next month. Men’s will lock horns for the seventh time having never missed any appearance while the Women’s will be making their debut at this event in the UK. The sponsorship signing event took place yesterday in Colombo.

Nippon Paints will come in as their Main Sponsor for the National Men’s and Women’s teams for the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens 2022. Meanwhile Signature will be the new Clothing Partners for both the national outfits at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Nippon Paints General Manager Nemantha Abeysinghe said: “We tied up with rugby during the Inter Club Rugby League and unfortunately due to the unrest in the country, we could not play the last two games but we are pleased with the response received from the same and did not hesitate to come forward to assist the National Rugby teams at a time of need at the Commonwealth Games 2022 as their main sponsor.”

Hameedia Signature Brand Manager Amjad Hameed said: “We are thrilled to be part of Sri Lanka Rugby and are happy to be the Official Clothing partner for both Men’s and Women’s teams. Signature is no stranger to sports in the country as we were part of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) too during the Cricket World Cup in 1996.”

Webxpay also pledged to support the National Sevens teams once again as Co-Sponsors while True Digital too came in as the Kit manufacturer for the Men’s and Women’s Sevens teams who will be traveling to the UK at the end of July for the Commonwealth Games.

Sri Lanka Rugby President Rizly Ilyas said: “With our sponsors Nippon Paint, Signature, Webxpay and True Digital this tour for both squads Men’s and Women’s was possible with the support of World Rugby (WR) and National Olympic Committee (NOC). During the current crisis in the country it’s a super joint effort that was put in by sponsors. I believe sport is and will be the key element to bring people together and connectivity too.”

“With only a Sevens last year plus a league tournament played this year, SLR management together with the coaching staff are carrying out a task which we have never experienced before. With the advice of Ben Gollings, SLR in consultation with our coaching staff and national selectors have prepared three outbound training sessions with both squads which will be a key factor in players bonding and understanding each other. Outbound Adventures has designed three special training sessions for the two teams which will start shortly,” Ilyas added.
