Sri Lanka announce balanced squad for Afghanistan Test

Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the 16-man squad against Afghanistan

Sri Lanka will host Afghanistan for a multi-format tour in February 2024. The one-off Test between the two sides takes place between 2 and 6 February at the Colombo SSC. Dhananjaya de Silva, the newly named Test skipper will lead the side, while Kusal Mendis has been named as his deputy. The squad features a host of experienced names in Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal. The bowling attack will be led by Kasun Rajitha, Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya.

Three players uncapped at the Test level make it to the squad: Lahiru Udara, Chamika Gunasekara and Milan Rathnayake. Udara is a wicketkeeper-batter, whereas Gunasekara and Rathnayake are pacers.

Afghanistan’s tour of Sri Lanka also includes three ODIs and as many T20Is, which follow the one-off Test.
