Sri Lanka’s Under-17 girls’ outfit beat the Philippines but lost to Hong Kong at the Asian Girls Under-17 Seven-a-side rugby tournament which commenced in the UAE yesterday.
This tournament is being conducted to select the Asian Zone team for the Youth Commonwealth Games 2018 which will take place in Argentina next year.
The Sri Lankan girls, with limited exposure at the international level, did well to beat the Philippines outfit 36-7 before being beaten by a tougher Hong Kong outfit 35-5. Sri Lanka will meet their toughest opponents Japan in the Cup quarterfinal encounter.
Results:
India beat Laos 27-5, Iran beat the UAE 31-0, Sri Lanka beat the Philippines 36-7, China beat Malaysia 44-0, Japan beat Laos 62-0, Kazakhstan beat Iran 39-0, Hong Kong beat the Philippines 54-0, China beat Thailand 44-0, Japan beat India 50-0 and Hong Kong beat Sri Lanka 35-5.
