Several former international cricketers have questioned the standard of the current Sri Lanka team currently touring England.
Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, and former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik have raised questions on social media on the plight of the Sri Lankan team.
“Sri Lanka at the crossroads, eighth test and T20 cricket, ninth ODI cricket. A nation that has produced plenty of legends needs to regroup and get clarity on the plan forward. There are glimpses of talent shining through, put in the right structure, a little success soon. #ENGvSL,” said former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg.
“Aravinda, Arjuna, Vaas, Murali, Mahela, Kumar, just to name a few SL players that would have walked into any World XI at their time. What’s happened to SL cricket?” tweeted former England cricketer Kevin Peterson.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik said Sri Lankan batsmen struggling against the English bowlers must be a result of their domestic tournament.
“Playing a Sam Curran who is swinging the ball late, on the other end you have Mark Wood who is bowling absolute rockets at 90 mph, unless and until you have a good domestic competition, it is not easy to succeed against these guys,” Dinesh Karthik told Sky Sports.
Sri Lanka has lost all three T20s and trail 0-2 in the three-match ODI series against England in the ongoing tour.
